Paris, 1863. The judges of the Academy of Fine Arts gathered to select the best paintings for the Salon - the great art exhibition organized by the Royal Academy – refuse more than 3000 artworks. They are considered unsuitable, scandalous, and ugly, they are to reject.

Napoleon III decides to organize a parallel Salon: The Salon des Refusès. The success with the public is enormous, but to denigrate, not to appreciate the works. Without understanding their true value, because among the "refusés" there are Manet, Monet, Pissarro. In less than ten years they would officially give birth to Impressionism, becoming among the most acclaimed painters of all time.

Beauty is there for all to see, but you have to know how to see it. This is why we decided to call ourselves "Atelier des Refusès": we see the value of the scraps and we want to show them to you in their best shape.
